THE magazine to explore Dubai!

There are actually a million and one things to do when you are in Dubai! And where can you find out what are the latest happenings? TimeOut Magazine of course! I have taken so many pictures over the past few days but my stupid internet access wouldn't allow me to upload em!

THE magazine to guide u around Dubai!

Ok that aside... can someone tell me how to flip the photo on mac? Sheesh!

Oh yeh! If you noticed, I have just had my hair cut and I pretty much like it! I didn't wanna leave my hair to the Lebanese people here, so I hunted high and low for Chinese or Japanese hair dresser. Afterall, they know asian hair better! I am happy what the hair cut and it only cost me about $8 SGD... Yeh totally worth it =)

The hot weather wouldn't bother me that much now! YES!

The slower pace of life...

In Singapore, its pretty much rush rush rush... Coming to Dubai, I have to learn to be more relaxed and patient. It's pretty much Sabai Sabai here...

But then again, when we slow down our foot steps and pay attention to our surroundings, we will appreciate life better =)

XINmsn is XI-riously crap...

Singaporeans abroad were encouraged to remain in touch with the happenings in Singapore and always remember that we are part of Singapore. However, mediacorp, being the only, monopolized television station in Singapore seriously ain't doing their job.

In order to remain in touch with Singapore, Singaporeans would usually do it by using media, food and meeting our fellow countrymen. When I wanted to catch up on my local dramas today, I was greeted by this...

I understand that hosting these free to view channels online requires  advertising fees and viewership to keep it up and running. Previously MobTV offers the option of a paid subscription which went wonderfully with Singaporeans who were overseas that wished to catch up with their favorite local variety programs.  Right now, they removed this option and Singaporeans abroad are just left without their dosage of local tv! Like wtf... Ok enough of ranting, i shall just have to watch taiwanese drama on tudou.

Mediacorp, you are a real disappointment!

A weekend in Dubai!

The sun in Dubai has always been about 48 degrees Celsius.... so its really pretty crazy hot! And if u think it'll be cooling at night, then you're pretty wrong...its as hot....

But well, since its sunny here, might as well make full use of the sun and get some tan..! (when god gives u lemon, u just gotta make some lemonade right? :P)

And of course make use of the infinity pool on the top level of my apartment =)

This looks like the 10am sun in Singapore. But it was 6pm when this picture was taken!

And the sunset here in Dubai is to die for...

In Dubai, its pretty much, BIG, Tall, Gold, or extravagant. They like to hold the records of the biggest mall, tallest building and stuff. (sounds like Singapore ya?) The Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world is built in the biggest mall in the world, Dubai Mall... I decided that I should go explore it since it held 2 major records!

THE Burj Khalifa, 160 stories! I had to lay on the ground to take this picture!

Everything here is man-made. Even this water structure! But u have to agree that it's pretty sweet!

The people of Dubai are really proud of their Arabian culture. And most of the buildings here have some sort of Arabian style infused into it!

I was exploring the water front when this suddenly caught my attention!

I gotta give it to the people of Dubai... Its pretty spectacular!

On a random note, for those friends of mine who were worried that I couldn't get pork in a muslim country, you gotta see this!

This wouldn't be Porky Pig's favorite hangout place!

U wan Thai Foo? Thai Foo ? U know ?

Alright, it's really weird that I do not crave any Singapore cuisine as of yet, but I crave a lot for Thai food. MAAaaaaaaaaayyyyyyybe the people are right, I am Thai after all! *HIAK*

The food culture here in Dubai is as international as the population. There's this place called Thai wok that totally made me salivate when i saw its website!

Looks so spicy and yum right?

Thai foo thai foo!!

Many people were asking me what if you crave for Singaporean food. Well, they have this place opened by our very own SAM LEONG from Singapore!!! Thank you SAM!!!! It sells everything from Laksa to Kuey Teow etc etc.... But .... I do not crave for any of those food yet. I hardly eat them in Singapore anyway. But a good Bah Chor Mee would make me happy... Haha...

Thank you MR LEONG... you are officially my favorite Singapore Chef

People usually order take aways here in Dubai... Its pretty nice, coz you wouldn't need to travel to get anything at all... Even the supermarkets deliver!

I am in the "I-want-to-stay-home-and-laze-all-day" mood and I ordered a Tom Yam and Chilli fried rice! You have no idea how excited I am now =)

Arrrroooyyyy MAK MAK!!!!

Introducing Domo Kun!

He's lean! He's mean and he packs a punch!

Arabian Night....................!!!

Gold Souk! Its filled with Indians, gold and Tourist!

Meet my new Russian friend...

The biggest gold ring in the World!!

Spice souk was soooo fragrant...

Don't stop BELIEVING.....

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” The above speech by Nelson Mandela was orignally written by Marianne Williamson who is the author of other similar material.”

Pet Hunting, Desert Style!

I wanted to get something exotic to play with since I was here... And a visit to the pet shops was really quite awesome....!!

Prairie Dogs were cute, but they were oh-so-noisy!

Ferrets are cute! But just see the fangs they have!

There were other more exotic stuff, snakes, spiders, sugar glider, small horses, lizards, u name it, they have it... Oh I am so spoilt for choice... What should I have?

Party and Alcohol in Dubai De-Mystified!

Many people think that being a Muslim country, there is totally no life in Dubai... Boy you are so so so so so so wrong!~ Its pretty crazy here when it comes to the parties. Out of 85% of the expats, most of them are ang mohs that party hard.

So imagine if you were told that there wouldn't be a party for a month because of Ramadan, what would you do? Party even harder!!!!!!

The first establishment that sold alcohol since god knows how long!

Nasimi pool party is like Zoukout, weekly...

Guest DJs come from all over the world here to spin!!!

And when the people get high here, they get wild!

Desperate in Dubai...

Well, I'm kinda sore that I am not at Zouk ( my homeground ) when ALL OF MY FRIENDS were there....! And to make matters worst, it's Ramadan now in Dubai. So its really strict. Everyone, including the 85% of the expats are not allowed to smoke, eat, drink, chew gum or show public affection on the streets. You can be thrown into jail if you are seen drinking water or chewing gums on the streets!

Talk about being strict, step aside Singapore, you have just met your match!

Everything has to be done behind hidden doors or even better, in hotel lobby or cafes that is FULLY covered... ! Yeh, you heard it right. These hotels and cafes will cover their windows, doors and entrances with curtains to make sure that the local muslims won't be tempted by the expats when we eat!

But Ramadan aside, you have got to try the Iftars here!!!!! Its like the people here have these MAAAAAAAJJJOOORRR buffet (iftar) when they break fast. Its pretty cool cause there are places with the whole arabic theme with See Sha after your meal!

My friends here decided that we should have an Iftar too, French style! We went to the Mall of Emirates...

St. Maxim has NO relations to that soft porn magazine u are thinking about!

I was quite upset that the garden snails did not come with the shells. It just looked like 5 lumps of meat. But it was yum...

The waiters insisted that i wore this bib to prevent myself from dirtying my clothes. WHAT?! DO I look like I am 5?!

400g of Wagyu beef on hot stone! They spent a whole day heating the stone!!!

And the KING PRAWN!!! I like!~

The total damage for dinner was about SGD $ 350 per person including 3 bottles of red wine...Really totally worth it! Ah... This is the life...!

P.S: If you were wondering why I called the Blog , "Desperate in Dubai" thats because I feel pretty desperate to go back to Singapore JUST for mambo now... Stupid? I know... Plus, alcohol here during ramadans can only be gotten in bars and chi chi pubs. No loud, heart pumping, hip shaking, butts trembling music! Now u know why...! (I have to resort to dancing mambo in my own apartment...No, im just kidding... no ... really....)
